Baby Boomers Hearing Loss, The deafening sound of silence

A baby boomers hearing loss study shows that – unlike previously thought – hearing loss in this aging generation is a far bigger problem than estimated. Nearly half of the 76 million baby boomers in the US suffer from some form of hearing loss problem. That’s nearly fifty percent! Far over everyone’s previous estimates for the Baby Boomers Hearing Loss. And unfortunately, this gets even worst.

Although there are some mild forms of hearing loss that have little or no impact on our daily lives, a large percentage of these Baby Boomers Hearing Loss reported that their hearing loss is affecting their success at their workplace and limiting their earning potential. Many more reported having trouble speaking with their loved ones at home, and even simple things as hearing TV or answering a cell phone call are now a lot more difficult.

With younger generation spending most of their time listening to music on portable music players capable of outputting far more decibels than needed to cause permanent hearing loss, this is a very disturbing study. Can mankind be evolving into a society of deafening silenced adults unable to have regular conversations without hearing aids? Will music continue to play even louder so that youngsters can listen to it, and leading to even worse long term hear loss problems? I think it’s up to us to prevent this from happening – and we should start doing something about it right now as "Baby Boomers Hearing Loss" study to show us.
